Words from the Heart for Sunday June 17th, 2018

Every good and perfect gift is from God. This kind of gift comes down from the Father who created the heavenly lights. These lights create shadows that move. But the Father does not change like these shadows.

James 1:17 (NIRV)

Every Good and Perfect Gift

Today we honour fathers. There is no father that can ever compare to our Heavenly Father. We may have even been failed by our natural fathers. Yet, the Lord is the perfect One. He will make Himself known and will even heal our wounds. And, every father can receive divine help from Him to better serve their families.

If someone asked you what the perfect Canadian gift was, how would you answer? Someone asked a question on the Tripadvisor board: “We will be leaving for England in a week and everything is ready to go except for one thing. We want to bring some gifts for the family that our daughter is currently living/working for in England. We want to bring some gifts from Canada but don’t know what. Is there anything that a typical English family would really like to have from Canada?” What advice would you give?

When was the last time you took a few minutes to take an inventory of all the blessings you have in your life? Think about the blessings of family and friends, food on the table and time to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of life. We live in one of the wealthiest countries not only on earth, but in all of history. The average Canadian lives a more posh lifestyle than many kings and queens throughout history. The Bible tells us the source of all that we have in James 1:17, “Every good and perfect gift is from God. This kind of gift comes down from the Father who created the heavenly lights. These lights create shadows that move. But the Father does not change like these shadows.” Do you hear what James is saying here – EVERY good and perfect gift, every blessing you have in your life – physical, emotional, spiritual – EVERY one of them comes from God. The unchanging God continues to pour out blessing and favour upon His people. Take time today to do that inventory of blessings, and then thank Him for every one.

These have been words from the heart.
