We have this fairy tale idea about angels. They are usually portrayed as cute little beings, half naked, flitting about and being kind to us. The Bible portrays something altogether different. Every time an angel appears in the Bible the initial response is fear. Absolute and paralyzing fear. There is nothing cute or harmless about Biblical angels. They are the soldiers of heaven’s armies. The Bible calls God the Lord of Hosts. The angels are those hosts, and God Himself is their general. All of this makes what David says in Psalm 91:11-12 so powerful: “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” The angel armies of heaven are on your side. They are fighting your battles in the heavenlies. They are there to protect you from the evil one. The next time you are hard pressed on every side, remember this. You are not alone. The General of Heaven has commanded His angel army to guard you in all your ways. Allow them to fight your battles for you. Victory is assured.
