Words from the Heart for Sunday July 29th, 2018

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Philippians 2:13 (NLT)

God is Working in You

We have seen in nature the powerful result of what happens when our God “works.” The entire universe is a wonder. Our God is also working in us. We need not fear the activity of God in our lives. We can expect Him to not just give us the desire to do His will but also the power to accomplish it. It is a joy to serve a God like ours.

International students may work in Canada if they have the proper work permit. Some jobs require applying for a specific work permit. For example, if the student will be working in a job in agriculture-related fields, or health care. Also, if they are studying in the fields of medicine or dentistry, or are preparing to become a primary or secondary school teacher, where they will be in close contact with patients, children, and the elderly, they must complete a medical examination.

Most of us want to be better than we are now. We want to be more caring, more patient, more peaceful, kinder, and gentler. People look in a variety of places to help them become the person they want to be. They join a club, take up an exercise program, or buy the latest self-help book. And while these may help the person a bit, they don’t change the heart, and they don’t bring peace. Only the Lord can give a person a new nature. Philippians 2:13 says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ He comes and takes up residence in us. He then begins a program of total transformation of our nature. We become more and more the person that God wants us to be. He changes our desires as well, so that we no longer want to please our fallen nature, but Him alone. As if this wasn’t enough, He then empowers us to live a life of victory. What a great gift we have in the God who has taken up His residence in us.
