Words from the Heart for Sunday July 28th, 2019

Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

Isaiah 6:8 (NLT)

Send Me

Canada’s role in the Afghanistan War began in late 2001. Canada sent its first element of soldiers secretly in October 2001 from Joint Task Force 2, and the first contingents of regular Canadian troops arrived in Afghanistan in January-February 2002. Canada took on a larger role starting in 2006, after the Canadian troops were redeployed to Kandahar province. 2,500 Canadian Forces personnel were in Afghanistan and 1,200 made up the combat battle group. Canadian troops ended their combat role in 2011, but stayed on to advise until 2014.

Isaiah the prophet had been called by God to serve Him and speak on His behalf. He had begun to do so when the Lord did a deeper work of grace in the prophet’s life. In the year that King Uzziah died, he saw the Lord in all of His heavenly splendor. When he did, he was broken before the Lord. In light of God’s holiness, Isaiah saw his own need for a complete cleansing. He falls before the Lord and God touches his heart and his lips with a burning coal from the heaven’s altar. Cleansed and empowered, Isaiah records this in Isaiah 6:8, “Then I heard the Lord asking, ‘Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?’ I said, ‘Here I am. Send me.’” It was in the cleansing and filling that Isaiah had been empowered to serve the Lord. And the Lord would use Isaiah to speak into his generation, pointing them to the One who would redeem the world. If you desire to serve the Lord with power and authority, ask Him to draw you into His holy presence and do a work of full cleansing and empowering.

These have been words from the heart.
