Words from the Heart for Sunday July 25th, 2021
Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it.
Proverbs 8:32-33 (NIV)
Listen to My Instruction
The Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program is a free language education programme—funded and regulated by the Canadian government’s Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. It offers full-time and part-time English and French-language lessons to adult permanent residents (or those with approval-in-principle) and Convention refugees. The instruction is not available for Canadian citizens, refugee claimants or temporary residents. The program is designed to meet English language needs, ranging from day-to-day living to job searching. It includes improving reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
There is an ongoing joke that men don’t ever read instructions. Someone posted online that the best way for a woman to prevent her husband from reading her email is to mark her email file “instruction manual.” While this may be true with some men, I know many men, and women, who spend their lives reading the most important instruction manual on the planet – the Bible. King Solomon, who had been given the gift of wisdom, noticed that those who read God’s instructions and live by it, have a much more rewarding life than those who didn’t. So, he wrote this in Proverbs 8:32-33: “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it.” We raise our children to pay attention to what we teach, counsel, warn, guide. God wants to raise us the same way. God knows that we will be blessed if we do. One modern ministry has done a study that supports this – those who read the Bible at least 4 times a week live a much more godly life than those who don’t. So, pick up your Bible regularly.
