Words from the Heart for Sunday July 15th, 2018

For your kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.

Psalm 145:13 (NLT)

You Rule throughout All Generations

Our enemy often uses the argument that God does not really plan to keep His promises to us. His lie is that God is not good and He doesn’t care. Discouragement can be a powerful tool when used against us. Maybe people we have trusted have let us down. The word of the Lord brings us back to the unshakeable assurance that God is both good and will keep His promises to us.

Human life can be so transient. Towns built to last generations can so quickly die. Just ask the former residents of Kitsault, British Columbia, a town owned by an American mining company, who one day in early 1983 were given until October 31 to leave their homes when prices crashed. Built for around 1,200 people, the Northern B.C. site now has hundreds of abandoned buildings, including 90 homes, 200 apartments, a hospital, shopping mall, restaurant, movie theatre, sports centre, and bank.

My dad died in 1976. I think sometimes about what he would think if he suddenly returned to the present—2018. There would be so much that he wouldn’t understand, so much that he would be amazed by. But I think he would also notice what hasn’t changed. Human nature is the same – there are wars and conflict, violence and hatred, and at the same time, acts of kindness and compassion. Human nature doesn’t change, and thankfully neither does the God who created this world and who longs for a relationship with men and women, youth and children. Psalm 145:13, written some 3000 years ago, says this, “For your kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.” God’s kingdom is everlasting. Just as it was 3000 years ago, so it is today. Now we understand it a lot better because of Jesus. But He is the same God and rules the same Kingdom as He has since before time existed. He will rule over your heart as well as you reach out to Him in faith. And His rule is one of love.

These have been words from the heart.
