Words from the Heart for Sunday July 11th, 2021
The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.
Luke 6:40 (NIV)
If you have seen a lifeguard around this summer, it is likely they have completed a Red Cross training program. The Canadian Red Cross has a long history of developing well-trained professional instructors who love swimming as much as they love to help others learn. The Water Safety Instructor Course prepares candidates to instruct the Red Cross Swim programs. Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop fitness activities, skills and water safety, and swimming skills in the Red Cross Swim Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids, Red Cross Swim @ School, Red Cross Swim @ Camp, Red Cross Swim for Adults & Teens, and Red Cross Swim Adapted programs.
If you visit Israel today, you will notice a variety of ultra-Orthodox Jews dressed in what at first seems similar attire. But if you look closely, you will see differences. The difference might be in the hat they are wearing, or the length of their jacket, or the cut of their pants. The difference is in the rabbi they are following. They emulate everything about him – his clothing, his teaching, his lifestyle. It has always been so in Judaism. Jesus said in Luke 6:40: “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.” I wonder sometimes if people look at me and think, “he looks like Jesus.” This must be the goal of every one of His followers. We are called to be like Jesus in our compassion and in the purity of our lives. The disciples understood this – they often called Him rabbi and they tried to understand all He taught and then put it into practice. He is our rabbi as well and we are to love like Him.
These have been words from the heart.
