Words from the Heart for Sunday January 5th, 2020
Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Colossians 3:9-10 (NIV)
In the Creator’s Image
Science Exposed is a contest held annually by the Research Council of Canada. Contestants must be involved in scientific research as students, research professors, or researchers in a public or private research centre. They must be doing their scientific research in Canada. The contest exclusively seeks images that stem from scientific research or studies and must showcase Canadian research. Each image is judged on its visual quality and the effectiveness of the research that led to the image.
Salvation is a free gift. There is nothing we can do to earn it, and we certainly don’t deserve it. God offers it to us by Jesus’ death and resurrection, and when we humbly and gratefully receive it, everything changes. Not only does God give us a completely new nature, but our desire changes as well. We long to live a life that honours and pleases the Lord. That is called sanctification, and we do have a part to play in that. While the work of making us more like Jesus each and every day is that of the Holy Spirit, who lives within us, the Bible tells us that we must make decisions daily that will allow the Holy Spirit to do the work He desires to do. As an example, Paul the apostle writes this in Colossians 3:9-10: “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” We are called to holy decisions. As we do, God is at work renewing us, into His image.
These have been words from the heart.
