Words from the Heart for Sunday January 31st, 2021
Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven!…Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Psalm 150:1,6 (NLT)
Everything that Has Breath
Canada’s laws for breath tests changed back in 2019. The changes make it a criminal offence to have too high of a blood-alcohol level within two hours of driving. There are exceptions for people who consumed the alcohol that put them over the limit after they stopped driving – but it falls on the motorist to prove that. Police no longer have to catch an impaired driver before they leave their vehicle. Officers can show up at a suspect’s home or workplace, or wherever else they may be, demanding a breath sample.
The Creator of the world built into every part of His creation the ability to praise the One who brought all things into being. Even those who have no voice have that ability – the grandeur of the mountains, the big sky of the prairies, the vastness of the oceans. And in the living creatures, there is beauty and variety. No wonder Romans 1:20 says “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” God’s invisible qualities are seen through all He has made. And because of this, all of His Creation is called to praise Him. King David describes it this way in Psalm 150:1,6: “Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven!… Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!” Human beings are the only part of God’s creation that understand all of this. Those of us who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ are called to praise Him. Take time today to do so.
These have been words from the heart.
