Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17 (NIV)
There are many options for the perfect Canadian gift, but in the middle of winter there is nothing more Canadian than plaid clothing. It’s a known fact that Canadians love plaid. While you’ll most commonly see it in shirt form, plaid has no limits. There is nothing like a plaid housecoat or plaid socks to keep you warm on a cold winter evening. You can always add a plaid mug for your hot chocolate in front of the winter fireplace. Perfect.
We’ve just come through the Christmas season. Most of us were very blessed with gifts from loved ones. I appreciate every one of them – in our family people put a lot of thought into the gifts they give so that they fit the personality of each person and what they love. We always try to find the perfect gift for each person. The Bible tells us that this is exactly what our heavenly Father does as well. In fact, He is the giver of every good and perfect gift. James 1:17 says this: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” I love the name used for God here – the Father of the heavenly lights. God is the creator of light – and not just physical. He is truth, bringing light to every conversation, every discussion. In an ever-changing world, God is immutable. In a world where change is normal and rapid, we can count on the stability that God brings through His unchanging word. No wonder James tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above – God knows exactly what you need.
These have been words from the heart.
