Words from the Heart for Sunday January 27th, 2019
The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.
Exodus 39:42-43 (NIV)
Moses Blessed Them
Each year on November 13, countries around the world set a day aside to remember the importance of kindness and to make an extra effort to treat others (and ourselves) with gentleness and understanding. World Kindness Day was established in Tokyo in 1998 by representatives of kindness organizations from around the world and is currently observed in 28 nations, including Canada. This year, when incivility and even hostility are so prevalent, doing what we can to re-establish kindness as a social norm is especially important.
God had given the people of Israel exact instructions to build the Tabernacle. He provided all they needed to construct it. Their role was to follow God’s instructions to the letter. Everything in the Tabernacle had a meaning, pointing to their deliverance, or God’s nature, or the true form of worship. Getting it right was a sign of not only obedience but that they understood all that the Lord was trying to teach them. How did they do? That question is answered in Exodus 39:42-43: “The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.” The Israelites were far from perfect and over the years they would doubt God, deny God, and disobey God. But, in this instance they got it right and were blessed as a result. God calls us to live a life that honours Him. He gives us clear instructions in His word. If Moses was to inspect your life, would you receive his blessing? Moses won’t inspect your life, but one day the Lord Jesus will.
These have been words from the heart.
