Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders.

Job 37:14 (NIV)

Listen to Words from the Heart

Stop and Consider

Holiday shopping last year might have been different, but a survey this past October discovered that Canadians were still planning to get into the festive spirit. Retail Council of Canada‘s (RCC) annual Holiday Shopping Survey of over 2,500 Canadians from coast to coast, showed that while Canadians were planning on spending less in some categories, they were eager to support local retailers and businesses while purchasing gifts for others and themselves.  The pandemic also put a spotlight on the challenges facing small community merchants.

Job had lost pretty much everything that was precious to him. If losing his fortune and his home wasn’t bad enough, all seven of his children were taken from him by calamity. To add to his challenges, the advice he got from his supposed friends, and his wife, made it worse. His wife told him in Job 2:9 to curse God and die. His friend Elihu does give him some good advice in Job 37:14: “Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders.” This is good advice for all of us. In the busy-ness of life we can get overwhelmed. We wonder if God is still with us, and if He really cares. The world tells us to stop and smell the roses. Nothing wrong with this – roses smell nice. But how much better is it to stop and connect with the Creator of those roses. The point is that if God is powerful enough to create the wonders of this world, how much more is He able to take care of our lives. So if life is crazy for you right now, stop! Just stop. Now, consider all that God has done for you. Better?

These have been words from the heart.
