Words from the Heart for Sunday January 13th, 2019
Pharaoh said … “I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”
Genesis 41:15-16 (NIV)
God Will Give the Answer
Maclean’s Magazine interviewed astronaut Chris Hadfield in 2015, following his successful time as leader of the international space station that made him a global celebrity. He was asked what it was like to be so well known and he answered this way: “I try hard not to be different than who I am. I constantly have strangers come up to me on the street and tell me that they are proud of me. And if that’s celebrity, then that’s a wonderful privilege and I’m delighted by it every time.”
God had a plan for Joseph’s life, and through good times and bad, through times of honour and times of pain, God was working out His plan. Finally, Pharaoh hears that Joseph has the ability to interpret dreams, and Pharaoh has had one that no one has been able to interpret. Joseph’s big moment has arrived. Joseph is invited to stand before the King of Egypt. Many would take the opportunity to build themselves up and make themselves look good. But look what the Bible says in Genesis 41:15-16: “Pharaoh said … I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.” Joseph has the opportunity to look good in front of Pharaoh and instead he brings glory to God. He understands that it is God that gives him the ability to do anything. We ought to recognize the same thing in our lives. When we are given an opportunity, we must always give the glory to the God who makes us who we are and gives us all we need to be successful. Point others to Him.
These have been words from the heart.
