Words from the Heart for Sunday February 7th, 2021
May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10 (NLT)
Your Kingdom Come
The British began to establish overseas colonies in the Americas in the 16th century, but it wasn’t until the 18th century that the expansion of what became the British Empire really accelerated. Little remains of British rule today across the globe, and it is mostly restricted to small island territories such as Bermuda and the Falkland Islands. However, a number of countries still have Queen Elizabeth as their head of state including New Zealand, Australia and Canada – a carryover of the Empire.
Earthly kingdoms come and go. There have been many over the centuries. The longest hereditary monarchy in the world is in Japan – it started with Emperor Jimmu in 660 BC. Since then, there have been 125 monarchs. The Kingdom of God, on the other hand, is eternal and only has one King. There will never be another. No wonder Jesus taught His followers to pray, in Matthew 6:10: “May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” I love the fact that the King is asking us to pray that His Kingdom will come to earth. Our King Jesus has invited men, women and children from every nation, tribe and tongue into His Kingdom. And the day is coming when our prayers will be answered – His Kingdom, which is already on earth through His people, will come in its fullness. The day is coming when heaven and earth will be one and the eternal King will rule and reign on earth. And we are invited, commanded, to pray for that Day. If you are a child of the King, if you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God through faith in Jesus Christ, take time to pray that the Kingdom will come.
