Words from the Heart for Sunday February 16th, 2020
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
1 Corinthians 13:6 (NIV)
Rejoicing In Truth
Canadians feel good about our country, and we have a lot over which to rejoice. However, not all we believe about Canada is true. For example, compared to other countries with our standard of living, we come in as the 23rd highest taxed people, not exactly near the top of the list. We rank 109th in the world in voter turnout – we have some work to do here. We are 54th in ranking when it comes to the number of physicians per 100,000 population.
We hear so much these days about fake news, and social networking makes us wonder what is really going on, and what is happening behind the scenes in so much of our culture and politics. There was a time when we felt we could trust our leaders in every aspect of our society, but now we are not so sure. What we do know is that we like the truth. We understand that the best that can happen is that we are told the truth, and we rejoice when the truth is told and upheld. This is the heart of the Christian Gospel and Jesus’ love for us. After all, Jesus said that He IS Truth. We can trust all that He says. In all of our relationships, we express the love of Jesus by rejoicing in the truth. Paul writes this in 1 Corinthians 13:6: “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” The world too often delights in evil. As Christians we often shake our heads at what we see happening around us. Let’s take time to rejoice in the Truth and love like Jesus.
These have been words from the heart.
