Words from the Heart for Sunday December 5th, 2021
For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.
Luke 1:49 (NLT)
The Great Canadian Minebuster is one of three wooden roller coasters in Canada’s Wonderland Amusement Park. The Minebuster and its immense wooden track full of side-winding turns, stomach lifting camel humps and breathtaking drops is one of the mighty rides at the park. One of the original four roller coasters that were at the Park when it opened in 1981, it is the longest single-track wooden coaster in Canada at 1,085 metres. It is known as a “modified traditional Out and Back” wooden coaster with an upward spiraling helix.
There are a lot of mighty things in this world – Mighty Mouse, Mighty Ducks, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Mighty Machines, etc. But there is only one who is Almighty. In her wonderful prayer after discovering she would be bearing the Messiah, Mary prays this in Luke 1:49: “For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.” Mary understood the nature of God. She had just admitted her lowly status in society, and recognizes the contrast between her and the God who had chosen her for this unique responsibility. She trusted His wisdom and His omnipotence. There was no one like Him in the entire universe – He alone has the power to make His will come to pass. Mary also makes a good point that we need to understand – He has done great things for her. Mary knew that God loved her, and that He had a plan for her life. He loves you as well, and has a plan for your life, a plan to use you for His glory and to be a blessing to others. You can trust Him, as Mary did, to do great things for you.
These have been words from the heart.
