Words from the Heart for Sunday December 27th, 2020
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8 (NKJV)
Beginning and End
Mention Yonge Street and those in the know think of the main street that runs through the heart of Toronto, and has since the 19th century. What may surprise you is that Yonge Street is believed to be the longest street in the world. Yonge Street is 1896 km (1178 miles) from the Lake Shore in Toronto to Rainy River at the Ontario/Minnesota border. Some argue that Yonge Street is only 56 km at the point where Highway 11 takes over.
Many people believe that the 12 days of Christmas begins on December 14 and runs through Christmas Day. But that is not so. Today on the liturgical calendar is the third day of Christmas. Advent ends on December 24 and Christmas begins on December 25. It will end on January 5. There is a beginning and an end to the Christmas season, and today is day 3. In a much more powerful way, Jesus is described as the beginning and the end of all things. Revelation 1:8 describes Him this way: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” The Bible begins with these words – in the beginning, God. It goes on to describe Him as the Creator. We understand more in John’s Gospel when we read that everything was created by Jesus – the God of the beginning. And at the end of time, there Jesus will be as well. All of eternity is measured in Him. He has all of time under His control, and you can trust Him with your life, in time and in eternity. Have you done so?
These have been words from the heart.
