Words from the Heart for Sunday December 20th, 2020
Zion, you have good news to tell. Go up on a high mountain and shout the good news. Jerusalem, you have good news to tell. Don’t be afraid; speak loudly.
Isaiah 40:9 (ERV)
A wonderful bit of good news took place back in July. Edmonton Oiler defenceman Ethan Bear donned a special jersey that featured his name in Cree syllabics to proudly honour his Indigenous heritage. Bear, 23, is from Ochapowace Nation in southern Saskatchewan and wore the jersey for the “Battle of Alberta” exhibition match against the Calgary Flames, with permission from the NHL. Bear said he was honoured to wear the jersey, for “those indigenous kids dreaming of playing in the NHL.”
Before his day gets underway, a friend of mine has his devotions, and then Googles “Good News” to hear positive things. What a brilliant idea. We all love to get good news and even better love sharing good news. It’s a joy to be able to share with someone something positive that we have experienced. This is actually a Kingdom of God principle. Here is what the prophet Isaiah says in Isaiah 40:9: “Zion, you have good news to tell. Go up on a high mountain and shout the good news. Jerusalem, you have good news to tell. Don’t be afraid; speak loudly. Tell this news to all the cities of Judah: “Look, here is your God!” This is the Bible verse that the Christmas carol “Go Tell it on the Mountain” is based upon. If you have come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ you have the best news of all. Particularly this year, at this time of the year, it is good news worth sharing. God Himself has stepped into our world. This is the best news ever. So, don’t be afraid – speak boldly about who Jesus is and what He has done in your life.
These have been words from the heart.
