All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
2 Thessalonians 1:5 NIV
Counted Worthy
If you run a museum here in Canada, you might be interested in a display called Worthy: The History of the RCAC. It delivers a comprehensive account of the formation and history of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, from its roots in armoured car units in the First World War to contemporary full-fledged main battle tank regiments. Available in 11 roll-up freestanding panels, ‘Worthy’ is highly portable and easy to install, making it a convenient and substantial addition to any venue wishing to exhibit the history of Canada’s armoured forces.

I’ve noticed that in many social settings, bringing up the name of Jesus can end a conversation pretty quickly. You can often speak about God and get a positive response but mention Jesus and the tension often rises. Here in Canada that’s about the extent of the response, but for many in our world, admit you are a follower of Jesus and far worse can happen than the atmosphere getting a bit tense. That was the case with the Christians in Thessalonica to whom the apostle Paul was writing in 2 Thessalonians 1:5: “All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.” Paul is encouraging these believers to stand strong in Jesus, no matter what happens. God is just and no matter what happens to them, God will bring about justice one day and, in the meantime, they will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God. Ultimately that is the goal that is before each of us who follow Jesus too – to be counted worthy of His Kingdom.
These have been words from the heart.
