“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

John 14:15-17 (NIV)

The Helper

To date in 2022, Canada has committed $245 million in humanitarian assistance to respond to the needs of the Ukrainian people. With this contribution, partners are providing emergency health services, protection, support to displaced populations and essential life-saving services such as shelter, water and sanitation, and food. Canada has offered a loan, as announced on February 14, 2022, of up to $500 million to the Government of Ukraine through the Bretton Woods and Related Agreements Act, in addition to a $120 million loan that was announced on January 21, 2022.

It is appropriate for Canada, one of the wealthiest nations on earth, to come alongside people who are facing such tragedies as war, famine, wildfires, and climate-related disasters. Human beings are called to help each other when needed. This call is particularly strong for those of us who have come into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Listen to what He says to us in John 14:15-17: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” God knows we need His help regularly – all the time, really. So He has provided the Holy Spirit to be our advocate, our helper. He comes to be with us and to dwell in our lives. He empowers us to live a life of love and compassion, and to become more and more like Jesus. Invite the Holy Spirit to be your helper.
