Words from the Heart for Sunday August 22nd, 2021

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Acts 2:46-47 (NIV)

Added To Their Number

In 1608, at the founding of New France, Samuel de Champlain and his companions numbered a mere 28. Only eight of these individuals survived the first winter in the new colony. By 1666, this small group of settlers, combined with periodic arrivals from France, had grown phenomenally to a population of 3,216. One year after the English Conquest in 1759, when New France was comprised of Quebec, Montreal and Trois-Rivières, the population had reached 70,000. By the end of the 19th century, the population had multiplied to 200,000.

I love how God is building His Church. He has been doing so for some 2000 years. But we are living in a day when the Global Church is growing faster than ever before. We may not be seeing that in our part of the world, but what is happening in the Global South and East is nothing short of jaw dropping. Bible League Canada’s partners alone reported 1.1 million new followers of Jesus last year. This shouldn’t surprise us. Jesus told His followers at Caesarea Philippi that He would build His church. That happened clearly on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit arrived in power and the growth kept going in the following days and weeks. Here is how Luke reported things in Acts 2:46-47: “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” God is still at work in building His Church. How is He using you to help him do so?

These have been words from the heart.
