Words from the Heart for Sunday August 15th, 2021
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
Revere Christ as Lord
An online article called “Reverence for our Vanishing Rural Heritage” quotes the January 15, 1873 edition of The Canada Farmer magazine: “Agriculture in its several branches has been, and is now, the foundation on which rests the entire industrial fabric of Ontario. On its prosperity all classes depend – and with a good crop or a bad one, business operations, the abundance of money, and the social comforts of our whole people rise and fall, as do the waters of the sea with the flow and ebb of the tide.”
It seems that so much in our society that we used to honour and revere has fallen into disrepute. Nothing is considered sacred anymore. People denigrate anyone they disagree with, and social networking platforms give opportunity to the worst in people. Even the Lord Jesus Himself is denied and mocked. This shouldn’t be surprising. When we read how the people cried for His crucifixion, it shouldn’t surprise us that there are still many who drag the person and name of Jesus through the mud. But those of us who have become His followers must show reverence to Christ and the name that is above all names. 1 Peter 3:15 says “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” We who love Jesus are called to respect Him and honour Him, not only in our times of worship, but in every conversation, with gentleness and respect. It begins by loving Him with your whole heart and then revering Him in every conversation.
These have been words from the heart.
