See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:19 NIV

A New Thing

A new lineup of postage stamps is being released in 2024, Canada Post announced last December, with new designs paying homage to accomplished Canadians, truth and reconciliation, national wildlife and a rare space sighting. Mary Ann Shadd, an influential abolitionist and the first Black woman to publish a newspaper in North America, had her stamp released ahead of Black History Month in February. New stamps this year will also honour the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, on Sept. 30, 2024, spotlighting Indigenous leaders.

Perhaps the greatest need in Israel, other than peace with its neighbours, is water. The only lake they have is the Sea of Galilee. The Dead Sea is so salty that it is unusable. They are desalinating the Mediterranean Sea. What a day it will be when the Lord brings about the new heaven and the new earth. There will be no lack then. Isaiah 43:19 tells us this: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” While God is going to recreate heaven and earth, and there will be no more wilderness and no more lack, what Isaiah is speaking about here is also in the spiritual sense. Sin has deadened our hearts and too often drags us into the wilderness. We all have times in our lives when we have separated ourselves from God, and our souls are dry. By Jesus’ death and resurrection, God can do a new work in our lives, bringing life into the driest parts of our lives. Invite Him to pour into you the living water that Jesus promises, making a way in the wilderness.

These have been words from the heart.
