Words from the Heart for Sunday April 12th, 2020
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”
Matthew 28:5-6a (NIV)
He Has Risen
Across North America, Asia and parts of Europe, burial real estate is at a premium as many continue to bury their dead in an ever-shrinking number of available grave plots. Urban planners around the world have been calling out to address the shortage of burial space and urging people to get creative when it comes to accommodating their remains. During the Middle Ages in Europe, grave diggers who came across dry bones would put them in an Austrian bone house and could reuse the village churchyard for centuries.
Today is the Day. The best day ever. Ask Peter what the best day ever was for him, and he will testify it was the day that he discovered the empty tomb. Peter had lived with the guilt of his denial of Jesus for the past three days, and those were the worst three days of his life. But when Jesus rose, everything changed. Never again would he have to live with guilt. Never again would he be alone without his best friend and Saviour, Jesus. This is what Matthew 28:5-6a tells us about that Day: “The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” Because Jesus rose, so did hope, and forgiveness, and reconciliation and restoration and every other blessing that comes with the risen Jesus. It was the final confirmation that God’s plan for the redemption of lost men and women was successful and complete. And it directly affects your life as well. Because Jesus is alive, you are too, or can be if you will invite him to be your Saviour. There is no better day than today.
These have been words from the heart.
