Pal Jonson made the comments last November ahead of a meeting with his Canadian counterpart, David McGuinty, and amid the ongoing debate about whether Canada will choose to fill out its own warplane order with Gripens, as opposed to U.S.-manufactured F-35s. Over the past many years, I have traveled the world to visit the amazing national champions, godly men and women who are faithfully starting churches and leading ministries for children and adults, many of whom are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus. They constantly express their gratitude for the support of Canadian Christians – they never take for granted the support they receive from us here in Canada. The apostle Paul expressed this same gratitude to the Christians in Philippi who faithfully supported him. In Philippians 4:15, he says, “Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only…” Every church in Canada needs to have the same vision for mission that the Philippian church did. May the Lord give the Church across Canada a passion to support the work of God’s people across Canada and around the world. Those who receive our generosity are eternally grateful for all we do for them in Jesus’ name.
