But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
Ephesians 4:7 (NIV)
As Christ Apportioned
Apportionment is the process by which seats in a legislative body are distributed among administrative divisions entitled to representation. In Canada, each riding is represented by one Member of Parliament. Ridings are based on population, but each territory is also given an MP; so Nunavut receives one MP even though its population is only around 40,000. The Fair Representation Act 2011 specified a uniform “electoral quotient” of 111,166 to be readjusted after each future census.
I knew a woman who was an only child and as her family was going through her things following her death, they found her father’s will. There were three pages of “whereases and therefores” followed by one simple phrase “I give it all to Mary.” Parents love their children and love to give them things. In their wills, they decide what to leave behind for their children. Jesus is eternal, so He doesn’t have a will to leave His children. Instead, he continually gives us gifts for our blessing and for the sake of His glory. Ephesians 4:7 says, “But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.” It is true that we are saved by grace, but the grace that Jesus offers doesn’t end with our salvation. By grace He gives us all we need to walk in victory day by day, to accomplish all He calls us to do and be, and become more and more like Him. Jesus alone knows what is best for us and what is needed to accomplish His will for our lives. It is available to all who seek Him and who are walking in the centre of His will for their lives.
