Words from the Heart for Saturday September 19th, 2020
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:4 (NIV)
He Will Cover You
Under Canada’s national Medicare system, provinces and territories are required to fund doctor and hospital services and ensure hospital and physician services are available to everyone. Medicare covers the following: Family doctor visits, emergency room visits, outpatient clinic appointments, Inpatient care/surgery, medicines received as part of your inpatient care, diagnostic Tests, bloodwork, scans, genetic testing and radiation therapy. Medicines infused or injected in an outpatient clinic, cancer support services offered in hospitals and mental health services through a cancer centre are also covered.
Ducks are made for water. Chickens are not. If you’ve ever watched a chicken with her chicks when the first drops of rain start, you will have noticed how mama chicken runs around gathering her little ones under her wings. In Psalm 91, David uses a fowler as a picture of Satan, trying his best to entrap us in order to destroy us. Taking that analogy to the next step, the Psalmist paints a picture of God being the bird, protecting their young. Psalm 91:4 says, “He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Over and over again the Bible speaks of God’s faithfulness. It is the heart of His nature. Because He is by nature faithful, we can always count on His love for us. And as David reminds us here, we can trust that when we run to Him for refuge, He will “cover us” and protect us. The world we live in is dangerous. We never know what each day will hold. But we have the complete confidence in the God who is faithful, and who will protect us when the rain starts.
