Words from the Heart for Saturday September 12th, 2020
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Genesis 2:15 (NIV)
Work And Care
When the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc became Governor General of Canada, he was determined to thank the thousands of caring people who give so much to their fellow citizens, the unsung heroes who volunteer their time, their efforts and a great deal of their lives to helping others, and who ask for nothing in return. In April 1996, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award was created to recognize the fine example set by these special volunteers whose compassion and charitableness are such a part of the Canadian character.
God has a purpose for your life. The book of Genesis tells us about God’s command to Adam and Eve as He places them in the Garden. Genesis 2:15 says “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Work is not the result of the fall. Even before sin entered into the human experience, God put our first parents into the Garden to work it and take care of it. It is one of the highest callings of every human being. God loves all of His creation. At the end of each day, as He surveyed all He had spoken into being that day, He declared that it was good. Those of us who know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and have become His sons and daughters by faith ought to be following in the footsteps of Adam and Eve. We ought to be leading the way in caring for God’s creation. The Church has historically done so. The first Humane Society in Canada was created by Christians to care for children and horses. What can you do today to care for God’s creation?
These have been words from the heart.
