Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Going With You

While most international trips are trouble-free, the Government of Canada is there to offer Canadian citizens information on safe travel and to provide consular assistance should they find themselves in trouble abroad. Canadian officials provide consular assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through more than 260 points of service in 150 countries and through their Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa. Each consular case is unique and the assistance provided will vary depending on circumstances.

We are not meant to exist alone. Recent studies have shown that approximately 25% of people in prison and 35% of those in jail who had spent 30 days or longer in solitary confinement during the previous year had symptoms of serious psychological distress. The rates were similar for those who only spent 1 day in isolation. Humans require social contact. Our Creator knew this – fellowship with others is His idea. So the promise in Deuteronomy 31:6 is a precious one: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” There are times when every one of us is alone. Far too many seniors spend too much time alone these days. For those of you who are alone more often than you like, this promise is for you. God assures us that He is always with us. You can count on that. If you are alone right at this moment, reach out to the God who is always present. Breath out a prayer, ask Him to show you that He is with you. He will never leave you alone.

These have been words from the heart.
