Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

Psalm 139:7-8 NIV

You Are There

The Canadian diaspora is the group of Canadians living outside the borders of Canada. As of a 2010 report by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and The Canadian Expat Association, there were 2.8 million Canadian citizens abroad (plus an unknown number of former citizens and descendants of citizens). For comparison, that is a larger population than six of the ten Canadian provinces. More than 9% of all Canadian citizens live outside of Canada.

Life is an interesting journey – it takes us to all sorts of places. I don’t just mean physically or geographically, although for some of us this has been the case. Life can take us to all sorts of places emotionally and spiritually. We all have highs and lows – and sometimes those can happen on the same day. We can get good news in the morning that takes us to an emotional mountaintop and within hours get some other news that takes us into a valley. The Bible recognizes this and gives us a great promise – no matter where you find yourself today – on a high, or in the deepest valley, God is there. Psalm 139:7-8 says, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” This is an incredible promise – no matter where your emotions are taking you right now, God is with you. Sometimes He is difficult to experience, but in those moments, He is carrying you. God loves you enough to never leave you or abandon you. He is with you right now, wherever “right now” finds you.

These have been words from the heart.
