Words from the Heart for Saturday October 24th, 2020
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
Psalm 139:8 (NIV)
You Are There
In the planetware.com website on the 17 best places to visit in Canada, most are Canada’s largest cities and most popular tourist sites. An exception is Tofino, British Columbia, which it calls the unofficial surfing capital of Canada. The article says this: “the small town of Tofino on Vancouver Island is one of the most unique places to visit in Canada and draws a mixed crowd of visitors. People come here to surf, hike in the old growth forests, and enjoy the beaches in Pacific Rim National Park.
The depth of human depravity is seen in man’s inhumanity to man. Whether instruments of torture or the gulags and concentration camps of the modern world, the human mind has designed horrific things. What amazes me, as I read the history of such places, God is often present. In the most challenging of places, God manifests His loving presence in miraculous ways. This shouldn’t be surprising. King David writes this in Psalm 139:8: “If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” There is no doubt that God is easily discoverable in the majesty of His creation. Gaze at the eternity of the night sky, the heavens as David says here, and it doesn’t take long for our minds to carry us to the magnificence of the God who was able to create all of this. But David discovered that when he was hiding in caves, trying to escape the likes of King Saul or his own son Absalom as they sought his life, God was there as well. You will discover that God is present in those dark times in your life as well.
These have been words from the heart.
