Words from the Heart for Saturday October 19th, 2019
And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:14 (NLT)
And Then The End
It wasn’t all that long ago that many thought that Quebec separation would bring about the end of Canada. But Quebec isn’t the only province where there are significant numbers that would see their province leave Confederation if they could. In a poll released this past July, Abacus Data reported that just 14% of Canadians coast-to-coast would vote for their province to leave Confederation. However, that figure includes 25% of Albertans and 18% of Saskatchewanians. In Quebec, the number is closer to 28%. The end of Canada is not imminent.
When we think of the Biblical compulsion for global missions, we usually think of the Great Commission in Matthew 28 or the Great Promise in Acts 1:8. But there is another verse that has been just as important in driving global ministry, and it’s found in the midst of Jesus’ teaching on what to expect before His return. Matthew 24:14 says, “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.” There are many mission agencies and Bible translators who are driven by this verse. The word that is translated “nations” here is ethnos in the Greek, from which we get the word ethnic. It means a people group, rather than the political entity we call a nation today. The world is tribal. There are hundreds of ethnic groups around the world, and thousands of subgroups with their unique languages. Ministries are working hard at seeing the Bible translated into every one of the languages and dialects. When every ethnos hears, then the end will come.
These have been words from the heart.
