Words from the Heart for Saturday November 2nd, 2019
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 (NIV)
The Word Became Flesh
Canadians love summer – ours seem far too short. But with summer comes some potential dangers. One rare health risk is flesh-eating disease, a skin infection caused by an aggressive microscopic organism that kills soft tissue. Known medically as necrotizing fasciitis, the disease is extremely harmful and often leads to quick deaths. Flesh-eating bacteria is found in popular summer locales, including ponds, lakes, beaches, fishing spots, whirlpools, hot tubs and even swimming pools.
The God who created the universe, and who reigns over all, is the God who speaks. He is unique in this – man made gods are silent. They have to be – they are really not gods at all. But those who put their trust in them have tried in vain to get their attention – to the point of human and even child sacrifice. How incredibly horrific. What a contrast to the one true God, who has spoken in the world and into individual lives throughout history. He has spoken to and through the patriarchs, judges and prophets. And finally, He himself stepped into our world. The apostle John describes it this way in John 1:14: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John calls Jesus the Word – the logos in Greek. He is the living embodiment of all that He has spoken into our world – all that is truth. No wonder Jesus would called Himself the Truth. And in coming, He has revealed the glory of the triune God. How has He spoken into your life today as you have put your trust in Him?
These have been words from the heart.
