On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

Many of us like to be liked. We want our friends and neighbours to like us. Most of the time that isn’t a bad thing. But it becomes a problem when this rolls over into people pleasing. We will say and do anything to make people like us. This can get in the way of our sharing the Gospel with others. What a blessing that Paul was able to write in 1 Thessalonians 2:4: “On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.” When our aim shifts from pleasing God to pleasing people, the message of Jesus that we have been given loses its power. But when our hearts are anchored in God’s approval, our words carry weight, even when they are hard to hear. Today, take comfort in this: you do not serve to earn God’s trust—you serve because He has already given it. Speak truthfully. Love boldly. Live faithfully. And let God, not the crowd, be the One you seek to please.

These have been words from the heart.
