Words from the Heart for Saturday May 1st, 2021
I have wandered away like a lost sheep. Come and find me. I am your servant, and I have not forgotten your commands.
Psalm 119:176 (ERV)
Come and Find Me
A B.C. police department says a dying cellphone light helped them locate a lost hiker on a Vancouver-area mountain this past January 11. Abbotsford police said in a news release that a hiker called 911 from Sumas Mountain Saturday evening. The Air 1 helicopter was brought in and night vision goggles were used, helping the team spot the hiker’s cellphone light from 10 kilometres away. The man was safe, but cold and hungry.
I can’t imagine what it must be like to be lost in unfamiliar territory, cold, hungry and afraid. Thankfully the hiker in Abbotsford BC had a cellphone whose light beckoned the searchers. In a spiritual sense we are all lost, hungry and afraid. This was certainly the case with King David in Psalm 119:176. He writes: “I have wandered away like a lost sheep. Come and find me. I am your servant, and I have not forgotten your commands.” David recognized that it was he who had wandered from the Lord. God never walks away from us. What is interesting is that no matter how far David got from the Lord, he had never forgotten the Word of God. This ought to bring relief to those parents who have children who have wandered from the Lord. All those Bible verses they learned when they were young will never leave their minds. The Holy Spirit will bring them to their memory often. Keep trusting the Lord for them, and keep praying for them. The end of their story is not written yet. Pray that the day will come when they too will cry out to the Lord, “I have wandered away like a lost sheep. Come and find me.” And He will.
These have been words from the heart.
