Words from the Heart for Saturday May 19th, 2018

For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

Psalm 103:11 (NLT)

His Unfailing Love

How could we ever measure the abundant love that God has for us? His love is unfailing and is without limits toward those who love and follow Him. If you were to draw a picture to try to tell how much He loved us, would you choose a picture like the one in this verse? His love is as great as the distance between the heavens and the earth.

For many years, Anne Murray has been known as “Canada’s Songbird.” The songs she has sung are almost entirely written by Canadians songwriters. So, it should be no surprise that in 2006, Murray received a tremendous honour when the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame chose her and Leonard Cohen as recipients of the Legacy Award for their extraordinary contributions to and support of the Canadian songwriting industry. Murray was recognized for her unfailing support of Canada’s songwriters, through her performances and her recordings.

How high is up? That was a question one of my children asked me when he was little. How would you answer that? I told him “halfway, because everything that goes up in this world eventually comes down. So up is halfway.” He looked at me like I was crazy and walked away. But the question is a good one. How high is up? Listen to what Psalm 103:11 says: “For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.” The serious answer to the question “how high is up” is that we can’t measure “up.” That is what the Psalmist writes here. And just as we can’t measure how high “up” is neither can we measure God’s love. It is infinite, beyond anything that our minds can understand. What incredible love this is. The Greeks call this kind of love agape. Without strings, without measure. The Bible teaches that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. I don’t know how that makes you feel, but it makes me eternally grateful. I respond by loving Him back.

These have been words from the heart.
