Words from the Heart for Saturday May 12, 2018
Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.
Psalm 33:8-9 (NLT)
Stand in Awe
The creation of the entire universe by the power of God through the commands of His mouth is a miracle. This work of God really calls for a response from us, the created ones. Not only do we acknowledge Him as the Creator but we also hold Him in the highest of respect. We stand in awe of the Lord and of all that He has the power to do.
Huffington Post in the US created a list of 19 things that no other country has, and that make Canada awesome. The list includes a 9 month ski season at Whistler, Crispy Crunch chocolate bar (they are right – it’s my favourite!), a real deal walled city – Quebec, the top summer vacation spot in the world – Muskoka (proclaimed by National Geographic), public health care, photogenic parliament buildings, a monopoly on maple syrup, and geocaching in an 18th century fortress – Louisbourg. Awesome, Canada.
We all stand amazed at illusionists who can pull a rabbit out of a hat, or make a plane disappear. A television show, Deception, proves how popular modern illusionists are – and have been since the days of Harry Houdini. But they are only deceiving us with trickery – and once you understand how they have pulled their trick off, it loses its sense of wonder. We never lose our sense of wonder with the God who created all things. His creation is no deception, no sleight of hand. Psalm 33:8-9 says, “Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.” What a powerful God we have who created a rabbit out of nothing, and who brought all that we see into being simply by speaking them into existence. No wonder we are called to stand in awe of Him. How can we not? The day will come when all of His creation will stand before Him and we will see Him in all of His power and glory. And on that day we will truly understand.
These have been words from the heart.
