Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

John 4:13-14 (NLT)

Never Thirsty Again

According to Health Link BC, water keeps every part of your body working properly. It helps your body flush wastes and stay at the right temperature. It can help prevent kidney stones and constipation. You lose water throughout the day—through your breath, sweat, urine, and bowel movements. You need to replace this lost fluid to stay healthy. If you don’t get enough water, you could become dehydrated. If you get very dehydrated, your body no longer has enough fluid to get blood to your organs. This is very dangerous.

Dehydration is a terrible thing. Thankfully, I have only experienced it once, while traveling in Cambodia, and I would prefer not to experience it again. I had a high fever and no energy. The doctor told me to drink litres of water filled with electrolytes. I’ve never been so thirsty in my life. Jesus uses this analogy to describe the spiritual thirst that every human being has without Him. In John 4:13-14 we read “Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” Every one of us is spiritually dehydrated without Jesus. But He offers us spiritual water that refreshes us in every way. And not only does it refresh us, but it flows out of us to those around us. Once we have been filled with the presence of Jesus, we are called to the ministry of bringing spiritual refreshment to those who have not yet experienced Him. How can you do that today?
