The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

Preparing

The website youcouldtravel.com gives some practical advice to those preparing to visit Canada as tourists. It says, “The weather will be cooler now, but still manageable and lovely. At the beginning of autumn, you can get away with jeans, trainers, a waterproof pair of shoes and a waterproof jacket. Make sure you bring some sweaters with you too. The weather can be a bit of a mixed bag, with warm summer days but cold chilly nights. So, a mix of short and long sleeves are a must.”

Jesus was crucified on the day before the Passover. Passover begins at sundown on Friday evening and ends at sundown on Saturday evening. After Jesus had died, it was important to take His body to be buried before the sunset on Friday evening. They managed to do so, and we read this in Luke 23:55-56: “The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.” These were amazing women. While so many others of Jesus’ followers had fled, being noticeable by their absence at the foot of the cross, these women were faithfully there, watching with broken hearts as Jesus died. They then followed Joseph of Arimathea as he took Jesus’ body and laid it in his tomb. They would be forever witnesses to Jesus’ death. Then, still before sundown, they prepared the anointing spices and perfumes that they would take to the tomb early Sunday morning. Today is our day of preparation as we wait for Resurrection Day tomorrow. Get ready – something amazing is about to happen.
