Words from the Heart for Saturday March 28th, 2020
Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”
John 6:68-69 (NIV)
To Whom Shall We Go
Online travel agency Expedia has just released their list of favourite travel destinations for Canadians in 2020. Europe seems to be the most popular destination, with Spain and the Canary Islands topping the list. There are five popular locations in Spain for Canadians. Barcelona and Madrid may seem the most logical sites, but Expedia says they will be eclipsed by the beaches of Mallorca, the architecturally magnificent Bilbao, historical Seville and Valencia. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
The disciples were fully committed followers of Jesus. They had closed up their businesses, left family and friends, and given their all to travel with Jesus, learning from Him and preparing for the time when they would take the message of the Gospel to the ends of the known world. And then Jesus began to teach some hard things. He taught them that He was the bread of life and only by eating His flesh and drinking His blood could they experience eternal life. Many of those who had been following Him abandoned Him. Jesus turned to those who would become the apostles and asked if they were going to abandon Him too? John 6:68-69 says, “Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” Every true follower of Jesus must respond the same way. If Jesus is really the cornerstone of our lives, if we have truly turned our backs on all the world represents and has to offer, no matter how challenging life gets, we must keep trusting the Lord. Only then do we prove that Jesus is our all in all.
These have been words from the heart.
