Things To Think About

In a recent poll, people from the USA were asked to tell what they think when they think of Canada. Here are some of the things – they think that It’s always freezing cold, that everyone lives in the wilderness, that French is spoken everywhere, the everyone knows each other, that everyone is extremely polite, that its always safe and peaceful, that wildlife roams the streets everywhere, that every city looks like Toronto, and that everyone works in forestry or mining.

I was with a group of Christian men recently and we got to talking about social media. A few of the guys expressed that they had to give up spending time with what they were seeing there because it was messing with their minds and bringing them down. This drove home a Biblical principle – what we set our minds on has a big impact on our lives. There was no social media, of course, in Paul’s day, but he speaks to all of this in Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” What a contrast to what much of the world sets its mind on. The things that Paul councils us to think about will always lift up our spirits and draw us closer to Jesus and other believers. Fill your mind today with those things that will lift your spirit and draw you closer to Jesus. Fill your car or your home with Christian music and spend time in God’s word.
