In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

God’s plan to redeem us was the central part of a much greater plan. Our redemption and forgiveness were the most important part, but sin impacted everything in God’s creation. All that God had declared good at the end of each day of creation had been marred by the disobedience of Adam and Eve. So, everything had to be redeemed, and Paul the apostle speaks to this in Ephesians 1:7-10: “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment – to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.” When He finished creating all things, everything was in perfect unity under the Lord. Everything was aligned and worked in harmony, in every relationship. The day is coming when all will return to Eden. That is what Jesus accomplished on the Cross – the forgiveness of sins, and the bringing of unity to all things in heaven and earth. One day, it will be complete.
