I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13 NIV

I Can

According to the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunication Commission website, “If you live in Canada, you can choose to reduce the number of telemarketing calls you receive by registering your residential, wireless, fax or VoIP telephone number on the National Do Not Call List. If your telephone number is not linked to a business line, you are considered a consumer for the National DNCL. Telemarketers must abide by the Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules, register with, and pay to use the Do Not Call List.

When I was a boy, my mother entered my brother and me into public speaking competitions in our hometown of Thunder Bay. She worked with both of us as we honed our skills in speech writing and elocution. By the time I was 12, I had been speaking in front of crowds for years. I started so young; I’ve never experienced the fear of speaking in front of people – the number one fear in Canada. I remember my mother often saying, “You can do this.” God says the same thing to us in the Bible. In Philippians 4:13 He speaks through the apostle Paul, who writes, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” For the follower of Jesus, it’s always about Him. We learn early on that when we forget this and try to set out on our own, we fail. The people of Israel learned this early on when they set out to attack Ai on their own in Joshua 7-8 and were soundly defeated. It was a lesson they needed to learn and it’s one we need to learn. Only by trusting Christ will we walk consistently in victory.

These have been words from the heart.
