Words from the Heart for Saturday March 13th, 2021
When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:33–34a (NIV)
Father, Forgive Them
The only formal, legal, debt forgiveness program available in Canada is a consumer proposal. A consumer proposal is a debt settlement program governed by the Bankruptcy & Insolvency Act and administered by Licensed Insolvency Trustees. Your trustee will meet with you to determine how much you can afford to repay. With this information, they will help you negotiate a settlement offer with your creditors. Settlement discounts of up to 80% of the total amount owing are not uncommon.
Guilt is a horrible thing. We are all guilty of something – pretty much every day. We say something about someone else that is unkind, or untrue. We stretch the truth a little bit to make the story sound a bit more exciting, or to make ourselves sound a little bit more important. We take a box of staples, or a reem of paper home from the office. We take a peek at a website we shouldn’t be anywhere near. If we had to stand before a judge for all those infractions, he would undoubtedly judge us guilty, because we are. But then we read Jesus’ words from the cross in Luke 23:33-34a: “When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Those who unjustly sentenced Jesus to death, the only truly not-guilty-of-anything human being, were guilty of the greatest crime in human history. But Jesus pleads to the Great Judge of the Universe, “forgive them!” Jesus says the same words to the Heavenly Father on our behalf when we put our trust in Him.
These have been words from the heart.
