The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Job 33:4 (NIV)

The Breath of the Almighty

When the Lord first created man on that sixth day of creation, He breathed into him the breath of life. We owe our very breath to the Lord. He gives us life. What will you choose to do with your gift of life from Him throughout this day?

Almighty Voice, a Cree Indian, was arrested for slaughtering a cow without a licence in 1895. This misdemeanor would unexpectedly lead to a prison break, a long chase and a deadly, fiery shootout. Almighty Voice was born on the One Arrow Reserve, approximately 100 kilometres north-east of Saskatoon. When he was incorrectly told that he would be hanged for his offence, Almighty Voice escaped from prison. After 19 months he was discovered and after bombarding his hideout, Almighty Voice was found dead.

When Job wrote his book, there was little of God’s nature revealed. Job is the oldest book in the Bible, which makes it even more a mystery just how much Job understood about God. For example, he writes in Job 33:4: “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” Genesis teaches us that when Adam was created, God breathed the breath of life into him. Job takes that truth to an even greater height – he says that God breathes life into every human being. That is an amazing thought. The life of your Creator is breathed into you at some point. It is no wonder the Bible teaches the sanctity of life, even in the womb. It is this inbreathing of life that separates the human race from the rest of God’s creation. You are not a product of chance. You are not even simply the result of your parents falling in love. You are carefully planned by the Almighty Creator, who, while you were in the womb, breathed life into you. Live your life recognizing that you are dearly loved by your Creator.
