Words from the Heart for Saturday June 27th, 2020
…to another [is given] a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit…
1 Corinthians 12:8b (NIV)
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, more then 414,000 Canadians were registered with Canada’s Registration of Canadians abroad. Registration is voluntary, so it likely that there were far more Canadians living or traveling abroad at the time. At the beginning, those who wanted to return home had no knowledge of how that was going to happen. Many Canadians reported to the National Post strange tales of being stranded. And while the federal government said it was their priority to get Canadians home, many had to wait weeks.
Over the years of ministry, I have been grateful to the Holy Spirit for the many times when He has given insight as I’ve been working on preparing a sermon. I can’t count the number of times I have been labouring over a passage, praying that the Lord would give me the knowledge I need to present the truth of that passage to the those within the Body of Christ. And He has faithfully done so. The Bible teaches that one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is a word of knowledge. Paul includes it in his list of gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12: “…to another [is given] a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit…” God doesn’t want His word to be hidden. He inspired its writing and He inspires those to teach His word correctly. If you are called to preach or teach, seek the Lord for the wisdom you will need to correctly understand the word and then to teach it. The Holy Spirit is with you as you study a passage. You can trust Him to give you the knowledge you need to speak it with truth and power.
These have been words from the heart.
