Words from the Heart for Saturday June 20th, 2020
If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging.
Romans 12:8a (NLT)
In April 2020, a national initiative was launched to help save the foodservice industry in Canada that was being decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic. April 15 was declared the first national Takeout Day. Canadians were encouraged to order from their favourite local restaurant to help support the hundreds of restaurant owners who have been hit hard during this crisis. While April 15 was the kick-off to the campaign, the restaurant industry encouraged every Wednesday during the COVID-19 closure to be Takeout Day.
If there was ever a time when we needed encouragement, it is now. With all we have been through over the past few months, facing the uncertainty of the COVID-19 virus, the horrific mass murder in Nova Scotia back in April, locust plagues in Kenya and South Sudan, and so much else, encouragers are appreciated more than ever. Jesus knew that His followers would need encouragement often. Many would face persecution simply for loving the Lord. He has always given encouragers to the Church. The book of Acts tells us about Barnabas, a true encourager. And Paul writes Romans 12:8a says “If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging.” I love that the Holy Spirit has given gifts to those within the Body of Christ in order for the believers to be encouraged to keep on growing spiritually and sharing the Gospel. Encouragers are glass half-full people. They seem to know just the right words to bring healing to those who have been emotionally and spiritually discouraged. If you are gifted as an encourager, look for those in the Body of Christ who need you to come alongside. You will notice them. Speak hope into their lives as only you, an encourager, can.
These have been words from the heart.
