Words from the Heart for Saturday June 13th, 2020
And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
Luke 10:2 (RSV)
The Christian Labour Association of Canada, or CLAC as it is familiarly known, is a union that was founded on the belief that people, businesses, and work communities flourish when workplaces are based on cooperation and mutual respect—when they work with each other, not against each other. Back in 1952, the creators of CLAC set out to create a different kind of labour union. Today they are the largest national, independent, multisector labour union in Canada, representing over 60,000 workers in a variety of trades.
When most Christians hear the word evangelism, they start to get nervous. The moment we commit ourselves to share our faith with others, most of us get sweaty palms and shaky legs. We know we’re supposed to tell others about Jesus, but we don’t feel prepared. Let me share some good news with you. Jesus said this in Luke 10:2: “And he said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’” Notice what Jesus says here – the harvest is plentiful. That means someone has already planted, watered and fertilized. All we are called to do is harvest. When we are led to approach someone to tell them about Jesus, God has already prepared their hearts to hear the Gospel. Others have planted the seed and watered and fertilized. We are just called to harvest. If God is calling you to share Jesus with someone, go with the assurance that the person to whom He is sending you already has a prepared heart. Knowing this should boost our confidence and give us the courage to speak to someone today about the love Jesus has for them.
These have been words from the heart.
