But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33 NIV
Seek First His Kingdom
Several different flags were used in Canada before our current Maple Leaf National Flag. Since the first days of the European presence on Canadian soil, the flags of the European homelands, such as France, were displayed. The flags of British North America used in colonial Canada showcased ties to the British Empire. Both before and after Confederation in 1867, Canada used the United Kingdom’s Royal Union Flag, commonly known as the Union Jack.

King Solomon was given a choice by God – to be incredibly wealthy or to be given the wisdom of heaven. He wisely chose wisdom, and by so doing, he gained wealth. He sought God’s best and received so much more. That is the principle that Jesus teaches His disciples in the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 6:33 he says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” For the follower of Jesus, He must always come first. If we claim He is our Lord, then He must have preeminence over every aspect of our lives. If He isn’t, nothing in our lives makes sense, and we live with the struggle of trying to keep one foot in the kingdoms of the world and one foot in the Kingdom of God. But when we seek first the Kingdom of God, when our single-hearted desire is to put Jesus first and live solely by Kingdom of God principles, we gain everything. By seeking the things of this world, we gain nothing of eternal value. By seeking the Kingdom of God first, we gain Him, in this life and beyond.
These have been words from the heart.
