The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 NIV

Faithful

In order to become a naturalized Canadian citizen, you must take the Oath of Allegiance. In Canada, we profess our loyalty to a person who represents all Canadians and not to a document such as a constitution, a banner such as a flag, or a geopolitical entity such as a country. In our constitutional monarchy, these elements are encompassed by the Sovereign (Queen or King). It is a remarkably simple yet powerful principle: Canada is personified by the Sovereign just as the Sovereign is personified by Canada.

God is faithful. It is simply part of His nature. We can count on Him keeping His promise and doing a work in us to keep us faithful as well. At the end of 1 Thessalonians, Paul prays that the believers there will be kept blameless at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. He knows what we need to know – we can’t do that in our own strength. We will always fall short of God’s call to be perfect as He is perfect. So how, then, can we possibly stand blameless before Jesus when He returns? Paul answers that question in 1 Thessalonians 5:24: “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” There is great comfort in knowing that our Christian walk does not depend on our strength, but on God’s faithfulness. The One who called you did not do so carelessly. He called you with a purpose, with love, and with full intention to complete the work He began in you. Rest today in the assurance that God is still working in you and when He comes, His righteousness in you will allow you to stand blameless.

These have been words from the heart.
